Who’s going to argue with Mother Nature ?

I was going about my business this morning.. actually I was unloading chook feed from the car. I buy some locally made mixed poultry feed.. $18 a bag, tis good tucker.. the chooks love it.

But hey.. I digress..

For a couple of weeks now I have been aware of the Blood plum with buds forming.. This plum normally doesn’t bear fruit until February Each day it seems, the buds would appear more swollen than the previous day.. I found this intriguing as the Winter Solstice came and went.. with this shortest day behind me now, I am eagerly been awaiting the lengthening days with extra sunlight.. not that I dislike cold Winters, quite the contrary actually.. but I do enjoy more natural visibility throughout my days.

.. Wheeling the barrow past the plum tree I noticed one solitary white blossom flower.. it is cold today and raining, but the previous week had been glorious weather. The sun for approx 4, maybe 5 hours of the day had been blissfully warm.. maybe this was just enough to entice this blossom out to face the music…  I’m not sure what this will mean for the Aquarian plum next year.. mother nature has her own plans..

I have been advised that we are expecting massive winds within the next 24 hrs.. I don’t think this lone blossom flower will be with us long..

This bursting blossom bud is not the only early signs of Spring I have been aware of.. there are birds with young, in particularly magpies. They are defending their territory, attacking my very young Araucana chicks.. swooping my dog, when we are out walking. Lots of other little birds are gathering bits and pieces to make their nests.

Back in June, I was driving home from work, I was absolutely astounded to see a wild mother duck with a brood of ducklings casually wandering along the road side.

There is no doubt in my mind that the seasons are moving along on their own.. and unless you have been away living on Mars for a time, you would notice the considerable change in them too, I am sure. For instance, I have in recent years been ready for Spring 4/6 weeks early.. but after what I have recently witnessed, I will be re-assessing this and other factors for gardening purposes on a month to month basis or I can see I will be miss time my future plantings and other outside jobs.

Mother nature is never wrong.. at least, who are we to argue with her ?
